Tell HN: A word of advice for new developers

by Desafinado on 1/14/25, 6:48 PM with 3 comments

After browsing this forum for a few years, and over a decade in the industry watching young people chase money, I want to throw this out there for devs who are new to the industry:

There is more to life than money, like a lot more. Don't spend your entire life chasing more money. Read books in a wide variety of subjects. Pursue art. Travel. Help people. Take your focus off of money and point it toward the wider world and the people in it, you'll live a much more satisfying life.

That is all.

if you are one or two steps away from homelessness, fixing that is definitely a priority.

Nice sentiment but this is advice for rich people. And with Trump installed as VC puppet, it's gonna get worse WLB-wise on average (not just for devs).
